When everything we need to survive, or have been led to believe we need to survive, rises in cost to the point of becoming inaccessible to the average person, we face huge problems. The cost-of-living crisis sees huge impacts on our life. It also creates behavioural changes too!

The situation -

Having a secure home is crucial to overall health, these days it seems to be deemed as a luxury so many people just cannot seem to experience. According to the charity Crisis growing numbers of people are forced into horrific situations because of becoming homeless and warns more will be faced with this reality if this situation keeps escalating.


Polly Neate, chief executive of the charity Shelter says, “we are facing the perfect storm for homelessness to rise.” She goes on to further state “No parent should have to choose between putting heating on, food on the table or paying their rent, but that is the reality for many families right now.”


Experts predict repossessions could double, as 2022 draws to its end. With many more homeowners falling into arrears, missing mortgage payments, falling into debt leading to potentially losing their homes.

There is no getting away from the facts of this current reality, that being money affects mental health and mental health affects income. According to a YouGov poll 59% of UK adults said the cost-of-living crisis has a negative impact on their mantal health. 1 in 5 (21%) are unable to cope with rising costs. Nearly 9 million people say they dread opening post from energy companies, banks, and other creditors. It is reported suicide is 3 times more likely to happen when a person has debt problems.


The cost-of-living crisis has put so much focus on money. Money worries can cause anxiety and make already pre-existing mental health issues much worse. The situation -

Many experts according to Community Care, are giving a clear warning that the cost-of-living crisis is deepening societal inequalities. Hitting the poorest and most vulnerable the worst. This in turn fuels already existing issues such as poverty, debt, mental ill-health, and domestic conflict.


Social workers are reporting they are receiving phone calls from people with no money for food, who need food banks. Calls from people who are being evicted because they cannot afford their rent. People unable to buy medication required. Others not visiting family because they cannot afford transport or fuel for their car. People unable to socialise due to costs so they are becoming isolated as a result.


People are just not getting the help or support they need. Those who work directly in local communities are reporting a large increase in the number of families receiving support under the children’s social care…
